In Room 7 we have been getting ready for our art exhibition, we have been planning to paint a picture based on New Zealand animals and Maori design. We started by sketching 3 different korus, 1 hei matau (Maori fish hook) and a moana.
My next step was to choose a silhouette of an animal. There were many animals to choose from. I chose the king fisher.
After when we have chosen our animal, we had to use the window to trace it on a piece of A4 paper.
Next we had to sketched a Maori design. It took us many tries to get our Maori design in the right shape. It took me two tries to get my design in the correct shape. Our design needed to fit inside our silhouette.
FIRST TRY……….. SECOND TRY
Then We had to draw our design on our draft.
My next step was to sketch the flax and draw the Maori designs inside the flax.
When I was ready, I could trace my animal and the Maori design on the cartridge paper. I also drew the border, Flax and painted some parts of my art using Indian ink.
Then we practiced drawing the designs for the border.
And Then we drew our designs on our good copy. Next we had to vivid the border and the design. After that we practiced painting with the water paint, We had to choose colours that were very close. I chose red and orange. I practiced blending the red and the orange together. After practicing, we painted the background using our two colours. Next we painted the border using another close colour. My next step was to paint a Maori design on the background. We went over most of the things using vivid and indian ink so it will be darker.
DONE!
